Gibson Guitar is probably one of the most well known manufacturers of electric and acoustic guitars. Orville Gibson began as a Mandolin maker in the 1890s, then manufactured his first archtop guitar. Perhaps more than any instrument ever made, vintage Gibson Archtop Guitars have a brilliant history and following. Gibson teamed up with guitar designer Lloyd Loar in 1919 in order to stay on top of the latest innovations. Indeed they did; with the popular F5 mandolin and the L5 Archtop Guitar, the Gibson Guitar Company was well on their way to making some of the most sought after guitar instruments of the early 20th century. These instruments from the earlier decades of the 1900s not only are popular for their history but great sound. The ES-150 Spanish Guitar from Gibson is one of the first electrical guitars ever made. Changes to Gibson guitars became scarce in the early 1940s due to the war. Highly desirable Gibson Guitar models from the 1900s to 1940s are available on auction and wildly popular. By the end of World War II, Gibson resumed making incredible guitar innovations. The Gibson ES-175 from 1949, for example, is one of the best playing, most popular archtop guitars ever made. The highly acclaimed Les Paul Gibson Guitar model was designed in 1952 by Les Paul himself. The 1950s introduced new, slimmer versions of the L-5 Gibsons, as well as many other new models like the ES-350T, ES-225T and ES-335.
