What is a Hollow Body Guitar?

A Hollow Body guitar has the sound characteristics and soundbox of an open, acoustic guitar, but with pickups for amplification. While a Semi-Acoustic guitar is an acoustic guitar with electric  pickups, the Hollow Body Guitar has both the Sound Box and the Pickups. A hollow body guitar gives you the warm, open, woody sound of an acoustic guitar with amplification of an electric guitar. It is the best of both worlds if you like to play in both environments.  While most Archtop Guitars are generally Hollow Bodied instruments, a Hollow Body Guitar is not always neccessarily an archtop guitar.Conversely, you will find that not all Archtop Guitars are usually Semi Hollow Bodied instruments but not always.  An Archtop Guitar can be semi-hollow or solid with an arched top or belly.
